Tomas Hanell holds a Doctor of Science (Technology) degree from Aalto University in Finland and is a Senior Research Fellow at the Migration Institute of Finland. He has for over two decades been engaged in research concerning regional development and strategic spatial planning in the EU, the Baltic Sea Region and the Nordic countries. His methodological focus lies on quantitative analysis, both at aggregate as well as at micro levels. After being part of the team of scientists that developed the official Quality of Life indicators for the European Commission (Eurostat), his research interest has gradually shifted towards the geography of well-being and quality of life. In Mobile Futures, he is the leader of WP 4 on trust in the labour market.
