I HBL:s artikel den 23.4.2024 p\u00e5pekar han att s\u00e4kerhet inte utesluter m\u00f6jligheten att ta emot asyls\u00f6kande. Han varnar f\u00f6r att politisk retorik ofta d\u00f6ljer verkliga avsikter att f\u00f6rhindra folk fr\u00e5n att s\u00f6ka skydd. Som exempel tar Phillips upp Australiens praxis att utlokalisera asylprocesser till \u00f6ar som Nauru och Papua Nya Guinea. Phillips anser att Finland och andra l\u00e4nder r\u00f6r sig mot en \"gr\u00e5zon\" i tolkningen av internationella r\u00e4ttsnormer. Han betonar att Europa tar emot endast en liten del av v\u00e4rldens flyktingar och att det handlar om politiska val och brist p\u00e5 politisk vilja att skapa effektiva asylprocesser.
