Bio
Ali Ali is a postdoctoral researcher at Åbo Akademi University. Their research focuses on the relationships of community and support in the lives of queer and racialized people, with a particular interest in experiences that deviate from and challenge injurious norms. Ali’s work examines the journeys of asylum and homemaking emphasizing how norms of race, gender, and nationality shape these journeys and the local and global circumstance they happen in. Through ethnographic research among people seeking safety and belonging in Finland and Europe (so-called asylum-seekers and migrants), Ali traces shifts in ideals and enactments of community and personal and political connections across differences.
