Bio
Stephen Phillips is a university teacher and researcher in public international law at the Institute for Human Rights, Åbo Akademi University. In April 2024 he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in law, entitled ‘An examination of deterrence and access to asylum through law, rhetoric and experience’. He also holds degrees in public international law, social work, international relations, and history. His present work concerns how states prevent access to asylum. In Mobile Futures he is involved in WP2 on trust in law. He has published work on transfer of asylum seeker policies between states, immigration detention, the rights of child migrants, vulnerability and migration, and crisis and migration.
