Mobile Futures researcher Hamed Ahmadinia has successfully defended his thesis entitled “Navigating Cultural, Health, and Information Landscapes: A User-focused Approach to Immigrant Health in a Nordic Context” from Åbo Akademi University.
The thesis explores health needs of immigrants in Nordic countries like Finland, Norway, and Sweden, considering cultural influences and individual experiences. By analyzing data from six academic articles, it provides a broad understanding of immigrant well-being, beyond specific health issues. It introduces the “Health Acculturation Model of Enlightened Decision-Making,” highlighting the role of cultural factors in health behaviors. The interdisciplinary approach suggests design principles for culturally sensitive information systems. Overall, the findings offer insights for policymakers and healthcare providers to improve health equity among immigrant communities.
