Magdalena Kmak appointed as a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters

Professors Magdalena Kmak has been elected as member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters at their Spring Meeting on 17 April 2026.

Magdalena Kmak is Professor of Public International Law with a specialization in migration and minority research at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Business, and Economics.

Her current research focuses on the multifaceted relationship between law and mobility, particularly in the context of global migration and minority regimes. Kmak currently serves, among other roles, as project leader and Consortium Director of the project “Diversity, Trust and Two-Way Integration (Mobile Futures)”. She is also one of the founders of the Nordic Network on Climate-Related Displacement and Mobility.

The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters is a society founded in 1908 with the principal aim of promoting scientific research, acting as a bond between those engaged in advanced research and supporting the better utilisation of high-quality research in decision-making. The Academy invites scholars who have distinguished themselves in their fields to become members, making membership a highly regarded achievement in an academic career. The number of members is limited: at any given time, there can be no more than 333 members under the age of 65.
